The Life Garden
A project by Beatriz da Costa with Donald Daedalus

The Life Garden is an indoor anti-cancer medicinal demonstration garden. The garden features only plants, herbs, trees and mushrooms that have been studied scientifically (in vitro, animal models and/or humans)and exhibited properties for the potential treatment of various cancers. The garden is designed to provide a visceral educational experience, while simultaneously highlighting the lack of continued research and lack of integration between so-called "alternative" and "standard" treatment approaches.

Depicted on this website is our first attempt of growing and exhibiting the garden at the Eyebeam Bookstore for the duration of six weeks. To learn more about the exhibited plants and associated research, please feel to download our Life Garden E-book below.

Future plans for related initiatives include the Delicious Apothecary (a hydroponic version of the culinary components of the garden), as well as public cooking and dining events.

The Life Garden is part of da Costa's "Cost of Life" project series. The project received support from Eyebeam and the Creative Capital Foundation.
